A Message from the Principal
Welcome to Guerrero
Guerrero Families,
I want to warmly welcome you to Guerrero Elementary, where we change the lives of children by preparing them for the rigor of college today. Our staff is committed to ensuring a quality education that meets the individual needs of each student: academically, socially and emotionally.
One of the foundations to meeting our students' social emotional needs is by implementing a positive behavioral intervention system school wide. Guerrero's exceptional work in this area was recognized by the state of Arizona (PBISaz) as a merit award winner for our teachers' implementation and dedication to the model.
At Guerrero, we strive to provide learning experiences that push our students to excel in the classroom, preparing them for the rigor of junior high, high school, college and beyond. To help meet these goals, we have implemented AVID strategies which connect academic skills with communication, organization and study skills.
Guerrero has been recognized as an AVID Showcase and an exemplar school in reaching their mission statement of closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. One of the many ways we help students think about their future and create a college-going mindset is through providing field trips to three university campuses over their last three years: Arizona State University (4th grade), University of Arizona (5th grade) and Northern Arizona University (6th grade).
We are fortunate to have many partnerships and ECA donations which have allowed us to provide enriching extracurricular activities. We are looking forward to returning to post COVID for one of our most anticipated educational field trips--the Grand Canyon. Now in its 4th year, this trip has allowed many students and parents to experience one of the great natural wonders of the world! (If you would like to make an ECA contribution please visit the Mesa Public Schools donation website.)
Your child's education is our top priority! We look forward to working together with you to make your child's educational experience a positive one.
